solutions to increase the capabilities of one’s full scope simulator. RFT - Plant Greene County Simulator
Against an ultra-aggressive schedule and demanding requirements for fidelity,
WSC delivered a full scope fossil simulator to Plant Greene County of Alabama
Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company. The unique challenges on this
project included not only a conversion of the approximately 50-year old 250
MWe plant from coal to natural gas firing, but also a complete control system
and operator interface replacement from the original DCS and HMI, as well as
conversion of some of the remaining analog panel controls. With a project
award date of August 31, 2015, the simulator was completed in just seven
months, and installed on-site with RFT being declared on April 8, 2016.
In parallel with integration and factory testing activities in the first quarter of
2016, the simulator was used by the customer and DCS vendor to test and

Plant Watson Units 4 & 5 GlassTops
As part of the contract to develop two full scope high fidelity simulators for
Southern/Mississippi Power Company Plant Watson Units 4 & 5, WSC is
providing two 3KEYTOUCH GlassTop panels (one for each unit) to replicate
each of the unit’s hard panels through soft panel graphics. Unlike traditional
GlassTops, which are typically used as standalone simulators, the GlassTops
being provided to Watson will be used as hard panel emulation HMIs that will
allow the operators to have a realistic interface to monitor and control the
panel instruments for each unit.
