WSC was awarded a contract by Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to upgrade the Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Training Simulator to support the planned transition from using High Enriched Uranium (HEU) fuel to Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) fuel.

The first LEU insertion is planned for 2023 and to support the ATR Simulator upgrade to use LEU in the ATR core, WSC will:

• Integrate Core Model Updates for the LEU provided by Studsvik
• Upgrade the thermal-hydraulic models by increasing the number of flow paths and nodes to more accurately model the fuel temperature distribution in the assembly and provide correct feedback to neutronics model at various elevations.
• Provide two GlassTop Simulators to support testing of the ATR with LEU inserted in the core. The GlassTops provide a standalone hardware platform that will provide flexibility for use of the simulator at any location INL desires the GlassTops to be used.
